>Day 4: No Wires!

March 12, 2011

>

Isn’t this a lovely sight! Today Joy shed everything but her IV ports, which they won’t take out until Sunday, just before Joy goes home. This means she can take all of her meds and her nutrition by mouth. To prove the latter, Joy begged and ate bites of the bacon cheeseburger the girls brought me for dinner from the hospital cafeteria :).

My favorite loss: the epidural line because with it went Joy’s glued-on connections to the heart//breathing/oxygen saturation moniter. This means tonight we both should be able to sleep. I feel as jet-lagged as a trip to Korea from being awakened several times per hour for three nights in a row by moniter false alarms.

I wrote that for posting last night but was too tired to realize I hadn’t. I think it was a grace to have three tough nights of sleep. It made getting up every four hours last night to give Joy her pain meds seem like nothing! The meds are working beautifully. We both had a good night!

    >Yeah! She looks great and I love the purple casting. 🙂 Hugs to all – now it's time to take that deep breath and tackle the next phase…life at home while she heals.
