Two Are Five! Amy

March 22, 2012

Today, Amy and Joy turn five by the American way of counting or six in Korean years!

In Korea, it is the middle of the night on Friday morning and Amy should be fast asleep, having celebrated her birthday twice: at school and at with her family while we slept last night. Joy has already celebrated with her friends at school and will have her family party tonight. Today I will share recent Amy pictures, and tomorrow, Joy’s.

Joy and Amy are  twins separated at birth. We adopted Joy when she was thirteen months old. A few months later, Amy’s family, who live in Busan, South Korea, adopted Amy. We’ve been privileged to travel back to Korea and meet Amy and her family and are looking forward to their trip to America to see us!

Happy Birthday Amy! We love you!

I’m still getting to know you bit by bit as I read your blog – and this post gave me such happiness! How lovely that you’ve maintained and nurtured this precious bond. One day we hope to take Eby to see his sister in Italy where she lives with her Italian family. That will be a great day!

Isn’t is a blessing to even have the information that our children have a sib. with whom they may someday have a relationship? I think more of our kids may discover as adults, if they dig into their stories, that have siblings adopted elsewhere. More unusual is that we are privileged to that information now. We feel doubly blessed: to know and to have a relationship. That Amy is growing up in her own birth culture is an added blessing for all of us; my other Korean-born daughters also gained ‘family’ in their birth country.
