Just Rosey

April 24, 2012

It has been a long day (started at 4:30 AM), but a good one.  Let me count the blessings.

1.) Being first up on the surgery schedule.

2.) Being checked in for surgery by a nurse who uses a wheel chair.

3.) Two surgical procedures for the cost of…well, I suppose two. But under a single dose of general anesthesia for Joy.

4.) Experienced orthopedists who think nothing of chipping away a little bone if necessary to get to a screw.

5.) A hospital that donates used surgical hardware to kids in third world countries where they don’t have titanium.

6.) No emergence delirium! She woke up from anesthesia as easily as waking up from a nap this time.

7.) “Duba-wuba-wuba-woo, esh, why, ab zee” which is what she woke up singing :). (For the uninitiated that is “W, X, Y and Z” from the alphabet song.)

8.) The nurse who charted a month ago that this admit., post-up, Joy should be sent to the neuro-diagnostic ward, not the orthopedic ward because ortho. hasn’t been remodeled yet and Joy associates that ward with last year’s very traumatic surgery.

9.) Nurses on the neuro-ward who were genuinely happy to see us again.

10.) The magic lights in the ceiling. The photo was taken when they were cycling through red in a rainbow of color.

11.) A hospital social worker who uses a wheel chair.

12.) Coming home :)!

13.) Narcotics. Because Joy has two fresh wounds and will need them around the clock for a few days to feel comfortable.

14.) A long-time friend from church who works at Gillette  who teased me that she thinks I have a few more gray hairs since my husband’s heart attack. Which would be a great theory but doesn’t explain how I acquired so much gray before it :).

15.) God who arranges all things and does all things well.

I hope you know that you can’t measure my thoughts about you and Mike and your girls by the small number of comments here. You all have been much in my heart these days.

Rejoicing with you. Praying for you all.
